Stages 2 & 3

Stage 2 - The first half of the race was relatively uneventful. There was only one major crash that took down half of the field. I was ahead of it thankfully. During the second half of the race we ascended 40k + over two climbs. Usually I would be stoked about a course like this, but today wasn't my day. I wheezed and hack-up plenty of green stuff on my way to 28th. Respectable, considering it is a UCI race and we started with something like 160 riders but I would have liked to place top 15.

Stage 3 -

Breakfast -beans and tortillas. I think this will be my new pre-race meal.
Today's stage was billed as a "flat" stage. I should have learned this a long time ago, but you can never believe what the comisario says when racing in his country. He wants the native riders to have EVERY advantage. I heard 20k to go about five different times today. The stage was fairly boring. I made it into two different moves that I felt would be THE move, but to no avail. Things started to heat up as we neared the finish line. With 3k's to go we entered a small town and all that was between us were three set of topas (speed bumps on steroids) and two lines of bots dots. The last line of bots dots (on steroids too) was about 500m from the finish line. A dude bunny hopped over the dots and lost his front wheel. Not pretty. I made it through the chaos for a pack finish. I think there were 8 riders about 10 seconds ahead of us.

After the race I was talking to one of my teammates and he was showing me his legs. The guy's front wheel actually bounced and hit the inside of Jared's leg!

We are now in Hermasillo and will be here for the next two nights. Tomorrow's race is a circuit race here in the City. Yippee, two nights in the same hotel!

I'm headed to dinner; hopefully they will have more beans and tortillas. I wonder if they have a nutritional guide for the food.
